Installing Add-in for all users

Feb 18, 2011 at 6:35 PM

Hi, I received a request from a chemistry professor to make this chem4word add-in available in our computer lab. I can readily install the add-in as myself, an administrator, but when regular students attempt to login to the same computer, the add-in does not appear. Are there any options available to make the add-in work for any logged-in user?

Hi,

Thank you for showing interest in Chemistry Add-in for Word.

You can install the Chemistry add-in for Word for all the logged in users. This can be done by selecting the Everyone check box during installation. Please see the example screenshot .
We recommed you to uninstall the Chemistry Add-in for Word completely and then reinstall it.

Please provide your OS details, Office version you are using and Chemistry Add-in for Word verion if this doesn't answer your query.

We are running Windows 7 64-bit, Office 32-bit, and the most recent Chem4Word add-in.

Unfortunately there are two issues, the first major, the second slightly less. One, the Everyone check box does not appear to work for us. I can provide appropriate logs if you can give me specific ones to look for, or places in the registry to check, but logging on as a regular user and starting word after the administrator installs the software results in no new add-on bars.

Second, even if it works, it would be 100% better if there were unattended install options for the hundreds of computers this program will hopefully end up on. Is there an msi option that does the same thing?

Thank you. If there is anything I can do to help find the problem, search through logfiles/registry, especially if it's some odd configuration on our end, please let me know.

I seem to be having the same problem but with v1.01 of the addin.

I install the addin for everyone and the normal users are unable to see the chemistry tab.

Windows 7 SP1
Office 2010 + SP1

Any ideas?

Hi,

Thanks for showing interest in Chemistry Word add-in.

Please make sure that you are installing the Chemistry Word add-in as an admin. You need to have the administrator privilege for installing the Chemistry word add-in set up for “All users” installation.

If you have installed it in admin mode and Chemistry ribbon is not appearing, please look for the following things:

1)      Look for Chemistry Word Add-in Registry Entry:

    a)      Enter “regedit” command in Start menu and press enter

    b)      It will open up you a Registry Editor

    c)       Expand the Tree folder structure \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins\Chemistry Add-in for Word ( this folder   structure  should exist, if installation was successful)

    d)      In the right side pane, you could see Keys defined for the “Chemistry Add-in for Word” registry. In that, please make sure the value of LoadBehavior key of type REG_DWORD is set to 3. If it is not set to 3, right click on LoadBehavior key and select Modify and enter 3 at Value data.

    e)      Now, close old instance of word if it was opened, and open a new instance and see Add-in is loading or not.

2)      Check for whether the Add-in disabled:
Please follow the steps provided at the link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms268871(v=VS.80).aspx to re-enable the disabled add-in.

3)      If the “Chemistry” ribbon is still not loading, please, create an environmental variable called “VSTO_SUPPRESSDISPLAYALERTS” and set its value to 0. Now, open a new instance of word application. If there any problems while loading the add-in, it will display the pop up containing the “Exception/Error message”. The message tells you the details of what is preventing word to load the add-in. Please send that exception message to us, we will take a look at it and we will suggest you appropriate solutions to resolve the same.

We hope that, above details would help you to resolve your issue. Also, let us know if you have any further queries.
